It costs so much to publish, would it not be better for the author to put his manuscripts in a safe?

When NYC is Cute: Babies and Kittens on the Subway

This afternoon on the uptown A train I saw the cutest baby. He was so cute sitting on his mother’s lap, laughing and drooling and being chubby and adorable, that every single person in the immediate area was smiling at him. To compound the cuteness, a man sitting a few seats down, across from me, had a kitten in a pet carrier on the floor—and the ten-or-so-year-old kid sitting next to me was playing with the kitten by waving his umbrella around low to the floor. The cat followed it back and forth with its eyes and looked like it wanted nothing more than to jump out of the carrier and pounce on the kid’s lap. I have never seen a more contented group of people on a subway train.

Every year around this time, I can’t help but think (rather smugly, I’ll admit) how GLAD I am to not be a teacher. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to go back to work after a two-month vacation. I have a hard enough time coming back to work after the weekend.
